MotivationBBS Automation is a special machine manufacturer for automation in the plastics industry. The company from Hallbergmoos, near Munich, specialises in the high-speed removal of plastic injection moulded parts and their further processing. Each machine manufactured by BBS Automation is developed for the individual manufacturing process of the parts to be produced.This special machine is from the medical technology sector and produces a type of sheath for surgical sutures Due to the immense variety of manufacturing processes and applications for customised machines, a great deal of effort was required to develop the system software.As a result, the further processing of the plastic injection moulded parts is highly adapted to the product to be manufactured. This contrasts with series machine construction, which is characterised by a high degree of modularity and standardisation. It was important to ensure that entire assemblies, alarms and safety systems as well as atomic components and their parameterisation could be modelled in advance using this application.The project required intensive collaboration between typedigital and BBS AutomationTogether with the PLC modules developed by BBS Automation, an executable control code could be developed for each individual component.Furthermore, a customised file format was developed to persist all the data of a system and distribute it to the members of the team.
